CIO Job Report: February's movers and shakers

CIO moves

Lufthansa Passenger Airlines has found itself a new head of information management and CIO in the shape of Dr Christoph Klingenberg. Klingenberg will take over the role from 1 April, following the departure of his predecessor Christoph Ganswindt who will move to Deutsche Telekom.

Former government CIO Ian Watmore has taken up a new post as chief executive of the Football Association. Watmore will take up the position from June, after beating off competition from two other candidates.

Mark Ryland has joined the London Stock Exchange as CTO of Baikal, the exchange's forthcoming pan-European dark liquidity trading venue. Ryland has previously worked for share trading platform SWX Europe as well as Merrill Lynch and HSBC.

Wave energy company Ocean Power Technologies has hired Dr Phil Hart in the newly created role of CTO, where he will head up the firm's research efforts and technology development.

Travel add-ons company Holiday Extras has appointed Accenture alumnus Nilan Peiris as web and IT implementation director. Peiris will be responsible for developing Holiday Extras' IT and system development teams.

Barclays is looking for a replacement CIO of global retail and commercial banking after previous incumbent Bob Rickert left this month.

T-Mobile International is also set to wave goodbye. Joachim Horn, its CTO, is to leave the position from next month. Horn has been with the company for more than five years.

CIOs wanted

The Department for Work and Pensions is currently accepting applications for the post of head of information security and compliance. The job comes with a salary of around £85,000 and will see the winning candidate taking charge of information security and compliance within the department as well as managing its key relationships.

Other government departments looking for senior techies include the Cabinet Office, which is looking for a director of digital engagement. The role, with a salary in the region of £120,000, comes with responsibilities including developing a strategy and implementation plan for extending digital engagement across government.

Surrey County Council is looking for a new head of information management and technology. The job involves heading up IT services provision to the council's 8,000 staff using in-house and outsourced teams and comes with a paycheque of up to £100,000.

Housing group AmicusHorizon is seeking to appoint a new director of technology following the closure of applications for the post in early February. The post comes with a salary in the region of £80,000 plus benefits.

This month also saw housing regulator the Tenant Services Authority on the hunt for a new head of information strategy and CIO, able to look after the watchdog's IT infrastructure and support flexible and mobile working.

Meanwhile, Bristol City Council wants to hire a service director of information, communications and technology who will lead the development and implementation of the council's IT strategy.
