What do most people call you? Simon (to my face!).

Who do you report to? Director of Policy and Communications.

Nature of organisation and total headcount: London Borough Council, approximately 4,000 employees.

IT headcount: 42.

IT budget: £13m revenue and £9m capital.

Biggest career success? Opening 100-seat contact centre (CSi) in less than three months after contract signature.

Greatest flop (that you can tell us about)? Business process re-engineering project.

Greatest influence on career: Wendy Thomson (former CEO at Newham).

Greatest strength: Translating technology concepts into simple terms.

Area where you most want to improve yourself: My skiing.

What single thing would make your job easier? Recruitment agencies not ringing me every five minutes.

If you could only pass on one piece of advice to your successor, what would it be? Don't let recruitment agencies have your email address.

Which business issue/technology excites you the most? Wi-Fi.

What keeps you awake at night? My eight-month-old daughter.

Home life: Married, one daughter, living in North West London suburbs.

Hobbies: Skiing, classic TVR and my daughter.
