The card can be used on most of Hong Kong's public transport, including the underground train system.
An estimated 95 per cent of Hong Kong residents aged 16 to 65 possess one, according to Octopus Holdings. There are 13.4 million cards in circulation and only seven million people who live in Hong Kong, while daily transactions of 9.4 million total HK $69m (almost £5m).
