Due to expansion of our development team, we are seeking a Lead Software Engineer with strong C# / ASP.NET & SQL Server skills to lead the development of an exciting range of high-profile web-based products. As the Lead Software Engineer on our business-critical solutions, you will be responsible for owning full-lifecycle development projects, from requirements analysis and high-level design through to development and delivery; as well as mentoring a team of Software Engineers through the lifecycle. Our recent development projects include “GLOW”, a national Intranet solution for schools in Scotland (and the largest SharePoint implementation in the world) which serves over 1.5 million users, and upcoming projects include the development of the next generation of our web-based email solutions for upwards of 1M users. Due to the size and scope of development operations at RM, we are able to offer considerable opportunities for your personal career development; be this gaining formal Microsoft certifications; moving towards large-scale technical solutions architecture or project management; or building on your mentoring and management skills towards formal line management roles. Key responsibilities: -Ownership of the whole solution, managing development projects from design to implementation. -Taking responsibility for high-level design, and subsequently planning and project managing the development process, managing a small team of engineers through this to ensure timely project delivery. -Hands-on development on varied and stimulating projects, typically using the Microsoft .NET platform, but with opportunities to work on other technologies such as Java and Linux. -Working proactively to ensure that the team continues to deliver cutting edge solutions whilst maintaining best practice, and contributing to process improvement within the department. The individual: -Of graduate calibre, with a strong background in full-lifecycle software development and experience of acting as the Senior Software Engineer, Lead Software Engineer or Technical Lead on projects. Any experience of formal methodologies would be advantageous. -Experience of developing on the .NET platform using C# / VB.NET / ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server. Exposure to technologies such as Java or Linux would also be beneficial. -Formal Microsoft qualifications such as MCP, MCSD, MCAD, MCTS, MCPD, or MCA would be advantageous, however RM is happy to support to candidates wishing to gain these certifications. -Experience of leading development across the full project life cycle, ideally within a structured project management framework. -Strong problem solving and team working skills. -Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
