Our Mobile Applications Software team includes talented engineers who work on problems unique to mobile computing, from inception through the end of the product development lifecycle. The role: Speech Research Engineer, Mobile Applications Our team is involved in a number of areas including next-generation, client-side mobile applications, information-retrieval algorithms, systems software and a variety of novel search products. As a Speech Research Engineer, and working in conjunction with Google's Speech Team, you'll bring key expertise to mobile application software development efforts, ranging from interface design through to language modelling, grammar development and tuning. Well-rounded, patient, focused, eager to work in teams and adept at sound judgement, you bring sharp speech and software skills. Responsibilities: - Identify new speech features in existing applications and products. - Design and create new innovative user interactions combining multiple modalities (visual, voice). - Work directly with engineers to develop speech interface features. - Develop novel language modelling approaches and high-quality grammars. - Manage recognition tuning pipelines. Requirements: - Strong background and experience in speech applications development including one or more of the following 4 areas: pronunciation modelling/tuning, acoustic modelling, language modelling/grammar development, or recognition tuning. - Experience with voice and multimodal user interface design. - Current and up to date experience with a range of speech technologies such as Nuance, VoiceXML, SRGS, and SLMs. - Solid experience programming in Java or C++. - Experience with Symbian, Java ME, Windows Mobile, BREW, Palm OS or BlackBerry (RIM) preferred. - MS or PhD in computer science, engineering, or linguistics preferred.
