Strategic Negotiator - Network Focus, Global Infrastructure - London The area: Global Infrastructure When we're not planning and designing our next secret data center, we focus on selecting, negotiating for and acquiring the space, power and networks to expand Google's global reach. The role: Strategic Negotiator - Network Focus, Global Infrastructure Google's Strategic Negotiators spearhead the acquisition and allocation of Google's global networking infrastructure. Strategic negotiators must interact closely with outside vendors to design, develop, and deliver highly innovative contracts for fiber, collocation, peering, voice, and data services across the world. This position requires substantial knowledge of global networks, in-depth technical expertise, and strategic analysis skills in addition to rock-solid negotiation, collaboration, and delivery capabilities. All networking initiatives are led by the Global Infrastructure (GI) group; as such, the right person for this role will be a solid, agile, and proactive team-player who understands the big picture and seeks, in the best ways possible, to support it. We require a negotiator with a track record that matches our philosophy of leading by innovation, who has a detailed understanding of both the technological and the commercial sides of networking infrastructure, and has the ability to deliver against aggressive deadlines with a driving passion for cost reduction and highly effective solutions. Google's strategic negotiators are dynamic personalities who work successfully across diverse circumstances, expectations, environments, cultures, paradigms, and technologies. We week star negotiators for dark fiber, voice, submarine, and corporate IT functions as well as exceptional networking generalists. Smart, highly technical, business savvy individuals with a driving passion to help build one of the world's largest networks are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities: - Identify, negotiate and close contracts with vendors providing wavelength, IP transit, and colocation services (terrestrial and undersea networks). - Collaborate with internal business and networking technical teams to identify and define strategic initiatives necessary to meet Google's ongoing needs for both expansion and cost reduction. - Build relationships with vendors; identify unique opportunities for partnership or expansion with these teams; determine specific routes that meet commercial, technical, and timing requirements; identify options for telecommunications connectivity to prospective sites. - Design and substantiate recommendations and approaches that are complementary to the overall Global Infrastructure strategy. - Lead and close contract negotiations in tandem with Google's legal team. Requirements: - Fluency in networking technologies (across the OSI model) and a solid working understanding of domestic and global carrier networks. - A BS or BA degree, preferably in technology or science. - Relevant experience with strategic negotiations and/or business development in obtaining services from high-technology providers in collocation, data centers, internet transit, network transport, telecom or IT services. - Experience negotiating in both North America and international markets preferred. - Extensive experience with contract development and vendor management across multiple vendors. - Strong analysis and problem solving skills. - Willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
