Our aim is to provide support that helps SMEs to develop and grow. On average, business won by participants projects amounts to £10,000-£20,000 per £1,000 invested. This extraordinary figure is only possible because we have over 19 years experience, supporting SMEs at both a strategic and delivery level.

Job Purpose

To deliver consultancy assignments, training, evaluations and other services to clients within time, cost and quality parameters as agreed between the job holder, client and line manager.

Principal Accountabilities

To provide expert advice and support to both public and private sector clients on all aspects of procurement, specifically in addressing barriers which prevent SMEs from accessing contract opportunities, and maximising maximising opportunities for local organisations.

To ensure that assignments are delivered to the satisfaction of the client, on programme and within budget.

To fully understand the priorities and needs of our clients, and the impact this has on our projects.

To develop and maintain expert knowledge in the field of local procurement, built on sound professional experience.

To assist SMEs in their efforts to bid for and win new contracts, for example using your existing knowledge of procurement to help them improve the writing/clarity of their bid.

To promote the principles of sustainable procurement and (if required) work with our Action Sustainability business unit.

To work within the company's Health and Safety policy, promote and enable equality of opportunities.

Procurement Consultant, Procurement Manager Key skills


Significant track record in procurement - achieving cost reductions and improved supply chain performance.

Detailed and up to date knowledge of current procurement best practice including category management, supply positioning, balanced scorecard, prioritisation, e-procurement, e-auctions etc.

A commitment to and an understanding of sustainable development and how procurement can be used to deliver sustainable outcomes, including economic development for local communities.

An understanding of the principles of sustainable procurement built on the recommendations of the Task Force report, Procuring the Future.

Experience of engaging successfully at senior levels and with blue chip and public sector organisations.

Strong working knowledge of both public and private sector procurement.


Person specification

Good communication skills, including experience of presenting complex information to different audiences.

High level negotiating and influencing skills

Experience of providing professional advice on complex and sensitive issues to business leaders, public officers and staff at all levels.

Good research and analytical skills, and ability to work in a flexible and creative way and promote innovative solutions to commercial and sustainability issues.

Excellent consultancy skills

Able to prepare and present clear and concise written reports and briefings on complex and sensitive issues within demanding timescales.

Proven success in building and maintaining working relationships and partnerships across professional and operational boundaries within and beyond an organisation.

Understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities in employment and service delivery.

Willingness to develop knowledge of sustainable development supported by training, leading to a professional qualification in this field.

Qualifications

Applicants should have the following criteria:

Degree and/or substantial relevant experience in a commercial discipline.

Professional qualification in a related commercial discipline, full membership of CIPS or of IEMA preferred

Willingness to develop sustainable development or procurement professional qualifications

Location

The business is based in Camden, London with regional offices in Coventry and Newcastle. Consultants will be expected to operate primarily in London and the South East. Candidates can be based anywhere in South East England provided they are willing to travel to clients locations when required.
