Main job purpose:
The person in this role will have the main responsibility for the SharePoint infrastructure and an active role with other colleagues in the management of the infrastructure of Microsoft Exchange.
A second phase of SharePoint expansion/roll out is envisaged in the near future. It is expected that the post holder will play a leading role in scoping the expansion from a technical perspective.
Technical expertise
- Systems administration of Windows servers and MOSS, giving full attention to best practice.
- Taking an active part in the systems administration team for Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory
- Hardware procurement and maintenance planning as required.
- Performing routine audits of systems and software.
- Performing backups and restores.
- Applying operating system updates, patches and configuration changes as well as major upgrades of software and services.
- Installing and configuring new hardware and software.
- Troubleshooting systems and network issues.
- Monitoring vendors? release notes and planning necessary upgrades and patches.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining Windows Server 2008, MOSS 2007, SQL Server 2005 and possibly 2008.
- Point of expertise for SharePoint provision for users and support staff
- Point of expertise for server and database clustering as applied to the SharePoint service.
- Point of expertise in searching, indexing and scaling issues.
- Resolving unassigned help centre issues and answering ad hoc technical queries.
- Attending the Help Centre front desk service on a regular basis.
Essential:
- University degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
- Proven Windows system administration skills and experience.
- Proven MOSS skills and experience.
- Detailed knowledge of SharePoint deployment issues to large user bases.
- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft clustering and load balancing.
- Database design and management experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Excellent knowledge of network fundamentals.
- The ability to develop and enhance expertise in relevant fields.
- Excellent communications skills.
Desirable:
- Development experience (site design, definitions, workflows, web parts) in SharePoint.
- Experience of a multi forest domain Active Directory.
- Virtualisation experience (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with VPN and other security/authentication technologies and their applicability to SharePoint services.
- Storage Area Networks (SAN) expertise.
- Experience with Windows PowerShell and/or STSADM.
- Microsoft Exchange server management experience.
- Experience with System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) or MOM.
- Good working knowledge of Kerberos.
- Relevant industry technical qualification or experience, e.g. MCTS, MCSE, MCP, etc.

- The skills and experience to become a successful member of the team as quickly as possible.
