The Company
This organisation (t/o c.£6m) is a leading manufacturer serving Local Authorities, Local Governments, Chemical Plants, Airports and Defence sector. Our client has the dominant share in its market and is a profitable, well run business. It has achieved this position through a history of product innovation which has been driven through a combination of fast changing customer requirements.
Professional and effective commercial management is a key element of its customer focussed strategy for further developing the business, both as it relates to the selection and pursuit of new opportunities as well as to the ongoing management of effective relationships with its existing customers.
The Position
This position represents a challenging opportunity to join a progressive organisation and play a pivotal role in the future success of the business.
Reporting directly to the MD, the role covers all commercial and financial responsibilities with a remit embracing all facets of the business, including acquiring and integrating highly selective projects. The requirement is to combine commercial skills with financial knowledge to "get under the skin" of the business and lead a committed team to even greater success. Responsibilities would include bidding for public sector contracts, commercially evaluating options for organic expansion and managing key aspects of financial and business development. The role also includes significant outward-facing work with clients in the UK and internationally.
Recommend improvements to current systems and procedures with the goal of providing accurate management information that forms the basis of effective commercial decision making. You will be responsible for analysing contracts for risk and developing any corresponding risk management strategies and will also make a significant contribution to developing new business opportunities in support of the company's growth objectives.
There will also be substantial emphasis on financial control within the organisation promoting a culture of continuous improvement in the processes and procedures that drive the financial systems infrastructure.
The Candidate
You will be able to demonstrate a track record of effective financial management and control alongside evidence of influencing corporate decision making, both strategic and tactical with demonstrable commerciality.
Ideally educated to ACMA standard, technical proficiency should be guaranteed, and commercial acumen is a prerequisite. You may have a corporate finance but your soft skills are also your forte and you will have significant experience within an in industry business. You could have been at the sharp-end as FC or FD but you must be broader than pure finance.
You will have experience of either a financial role with commercial tact or a commercial role with emphasis on the financial side of you company.
For the right candidate this will be a board level appointment and present the opportunity to operate within a dynamic and fascinating industry sector. Candidates must be based commutable to the North-East of England where the company?s offices are based, and this will be a predominantly office based position. Some international and UK travel will of course be required though only from time to time.
This is a full-time, permanent position and will pay a basic salary of between £35k and £50k+ with an executive benefits package depending on experience and attributes.
