Our client is the UK's leading cogeneration plant owner and operator. The Commercial Asset Management (CAM) function within the Generation business has commercial responsibility for a large portfolio of fossil fuelled power generation and cogen plant.
The Planning and Optimisation team within CAM plays a key role in: business planning, commodity risk management, value optimisation, portfolio development and management of environmental challenges.
In a pivotal role, the Planning and Optimisation Analyst will support business planning for our client's main plant - maximising portfolio development opportunities and considering changes to the regulatory and market environment. You will require world analytical and commercial skills, plus sound appreciation of the challenges and opportunities facing power plant owners. An appreciation of the drivers to the generation business would be highly advantageous, as would a good degree in a numerate discipline, but it is your inquiring and incisive mind, appreciation of valuation techniques and spreadsheet modelling skills that will count above all.
The role requires:
*Strong commercial ability and an inquisitive and analytical disposition
*A sound understanding of valuation techniques appropriate to the power generation business
*Excellent spreadsheet modelling skills coupled with the ability to employ visual basic to develop sophisticated models
*A broad appreciation of the power generation business including an understanding of the importance of tightening environmental constraints.
*Sound knowledge of market fundamentals
*Experience of coal markets, risk management and/or quality impacts on power stations would be beneficial
*An ability to work to tight timescales on a number of different projects
*Excellent communication and influencing skills
*Have an enthusiastic and flexible attitude to a changing and challenging work environment
