Position: Technical Support Engineer
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire
Salary: £30-35K based on experience
Hours: 1.30pm - 10.00pm with a 1 hour tea break (late shift)

Our client specialises in providing and supporting solutions which manage Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Internet Protocol Address Management (IPAM). They\'ve done this for over a decade - for large, multi-national blue-chip customers - making them a global leading provider. Recently they have developed their own product called Porttracker, which helps organisations manage their switch port allocations by unused ports, enabling organisations to reduce switch port wastage.

ROLE:
To provide technical support to customers based in the UK and US East Coast time zones

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Process incoming support requests (via phone, e-mail and web).
b) Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
c) Liaise with customers and other members of the technical support team.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
a) 2+ years experience in a similar role.
b) Expert level familiarity with TCP/IP network protocols, specifically IPv4, SNMP and switching/routing protocols.
c) Familiarity with Cisco technologies (CCNA or better).
d) You must be able to demonstrate clear oral and written English skills as you will be communicating directly with customers.
e) An aptitude to learn is of paramount importance.
f) You will be expected to \"think on your feet\" and diagnose/troubleshoot complex technical problems on your own.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
a) Any of the following technical skills would be advantageous: UNIX (e.g. RedHat and/or Solaris), Windows XP/NT/2000/2003 networking (+ Active Directory), DNS, DHCP, Sybase/Oracle/SQL Server, Perl & Shell scripting, VMware, MS Office.
b) Familiarity with any of the following network vendors' products: HP Procurve, 3Com, Nortel, Enterasys, Extreme, Huawei.


You may have experience in the following roles: CCNP, Cisco Certified Network Professional, CCDP, Cisco Certified Design Professional, CCNA, Cisco Certified Network Associate, Technical Support, Technical Support Manager, Technical Support Engineer, Technical Support Consultant, etc
