Senior RF and VSAT Engineer

Mission:

A senior RF and VSAT Engineer is required to support the existing Avanti Broadband Operations using leased Ku-band satellite capacity and the future implementation of the new HYLAS Ka-band satellite programme.  HYLAS is a new satellite being procured by Avanti through a contract with EADS Astrium.  The satellite will be launched in 2009 to provide broadband and broadcast services across Europe.  The associated Ka-band ground segment infrastructure will be procured, installed and tested during 2009.

? Supporting and troubleshooting RF problems relating satellite terminal (VSATs) and Wireless Access points.
? Correct operation and management of RF ground infrastructure related to the Avanti BB satellite hub (DVB-RCS)
? Interference monitoring and detection
? Evaluating, testing and qualifying system components (antennas, amplifiers, feeds, support brackets etc.)
? Training and certifying 3rd party Installers
? Preparing training manuals and QA procedures for Installations and service visits.
? Preparation of Tenders, evaluations and optimisation of selected services
? Preparing and maintaining relevant interface control documents
? Preparing and performing acceptance test plans
? Documentation of designs, configurations, test procedures and results.

Minimum Skills Required:

? Five years experience of satellite communications and VSAT deployment, testing and execution
? Three years Earth station/VSAT installations
? RF systems design, systems integration, test planning and execution
? Good understanding of Spectrum Analysers and measurement techniques, carrier monitoring
? Experience of Interference detection and analysis
? Experience of managing a DVB-RCS hub and VSAT (or other satellite network equipment).
? Ability and willingness to work occasionally long hours under pressure.
? A good electronics engineering or science degree
? Competent in Microsoft Office
