Robin Li attracted the praise of the Agenda Setters judges for taking search in China beyond the offerings of the established players such as Google with the creation of Baidu, and also building a range of community applications around it.
Li has been the chairman of the board of Baidu, the leading search engine in China, since the company's inception in January 2000 and he has been CEO since January 2004.
Before founding Baidu, Li - educated in both China and the US - built his knowledge of search engine technology working as a staff engineer at Infoseek, and as a senior consultant for IDD Information Services.
The site is now rated 11th most popular on the web by Alexa.com, and Baidu isn't just confining its ambitions to China. Earlier this year the company formally launched its Japanese language search engine, so expect more Agenda Setting from Li in future.
