Dr Robert Atkinson and the influential Washington-based thinktank he leads are helping to shape national technology policy in the US.
It's the first time the founder and president of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (Itif) has made it into the Agenda Setters list.
Panellists hailed Atkinson and the Itif for arguing the case for the billions of dollars that the US government will pump into building broadband networks as part of its economic stimulus package.
Atkinson has a long history of helping to shape policy before setting up the Itif in 2006. He has previously served as VP of the Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) and as project director at the former Congressional Office of Technology Assessment he produced a report examining the information technology revolution on the US' urban areas.
During his time at the PPI he wrote reports on a range of technology and innovation topics, ranging from broadband telecommunications to internet telephony to ecommerce and RFID.
