Simon Davies No. 50 Simon Davies, privacy advocate and visiting LSE fellow

Last year's position: Not placed

As the government and big corporate are having a punt at unpicking the UK's civil liberties, privacy is becoming a major concern for IT - and Simon Davies is leading the fight against the increasingly invasive powers that be.

Davies' group Privacy International was part of the coalition attacking the International Civil Aviation Organisation's plans to share data without traveller's knowledge and use RFID passports. The group also acted as vocal opposition to the UK government's desire to have citizen's use of the web monitored.

The privacy advocate continues to poke fun at the anti-civil liberties brigade with the annual Big Brother awards and Davies is also at the forefront of the No2ID campaign, encouraging the powers that be to take a long hard look at their plans for the UK's ID card scheme.
