Cheat sheet: The mini iPod

The low down on this year's must-have gadget...

By Will Sturgeon, 8 April 2004 18:00

So what's this 'mini iPod' that everybody is talking about?
It's the 'must have' item of 2004.

Well that clears that up. I heard it was basically a jumped-up Walkman.
And then some. The excitement surrounding the release of the Apple iPod mini is part hype, part deserved. It's a very stylish 4GB MP3 player capable of storing around 1,000 tracks - all on a device the size of a small mobile phone. And it's available in a range of colours.

A range of colours you say?
Gold, silver, blue, pink, green. Silver is the least popular, favoured mainly by men, while pink is the most successful. The colours are causing quite a stir, with stories circulating about angry mobs of women getting angry with store staff upon being told they've sold out of the pink iPods. There are even stories about the fashion conscious buying all the colours to better accessorise with their outfits.

Impressive. So where can I get one?
At the moment only in America. The devices were supposed to be on sale this week in the UK but huge demand Stateside means there aren't any available to ship over here. UK consumers are going to have to sit tight for a while longer - or get themselves over to the US like I did and buy one there. (Sorry had to slip that in there.)

It's a long way to go just to buy an iPod and probably adds considerably to the cost. How long will we have to wait over here?
There is no revised date for the release but it's likely to be around late summer or early autumn.

And how much will it cost?
There is no official recommended retail price yet for sale in the UK, though expect to pay somewhere in the region of £179 to £199. In the US they retail for $249.

So this must all be good news for Apple?
It's great news for Apple. The company has been the subject of morbid fascination in recent years as a perceived lack of innovation and falling sales for its computers led some to fear for its long-term future. However, the release of previous iPod models and the huge popularity of the iTunes service means the company is charting new and very profitable waters in the music industry.

The hype and the publicity which has surrounded the gadget has ensured Apple's is once again a name that is on the lips of consumers worldwide.

So it's all good then?
Sadly no. There is one slight drawback.

Go on...
The mini iPod seems to have one flaw. A number of users, myself included, have been complaining about high levels of static interference which can occasionally ruin the sound quality of the units. The problem is intermittent but at its worst it makes the iPod unusable and at its mildest it's an irritant - but it is an irritant which looks set to tarnish the otherwise gleaming release.

Apple hasn't released any sales figures on the iPod mini yet. How were you able to verify which model color was more successful?

(Ed note. That statement is based on reports from stores as to which colours have sold out quicker than others - for example in many stores you can still get silver, but pink sold out long ago. It is reasonably anecdotal, but until official figures are released it's the best we have to go on.)

Save your money - go for the latest Sony Net Minidisc, which will have 53 HOURS of music (and/or data), on ONE minidisc.

Yes, you DID read it right, 53 HOURS on ONE minidisc,

Who said the minidisc was dead?

  3. 3. anonymous

You gotta be damn lucky to get hold of one even in the US. When I went to buy one a woman snatched up the last three in the store.

  4. 4. anonymous

Ohh Must rush to buy one NOT!!!!

  5. 5. Neil Gibson

I can't quite figure out why there is such a buzz about a device that produces sound of a lower quality than a CD.

  6. 6. Adrian Lee

I ordered mine the other day from http://www.appleimports.co.uk/

  7. 7. Jan Morren

People who say that it has lower sound quality than a CD, I dare you to listen to one and then a CD, the quality is about the same, you simply cannot tell which is better. The iPod is simply put awesome. It is not only a MP3 player, but I also use it as a back up drive, calendar, and contacts machine. And since it is for PC users as well, it is only a matter of time when it will become the only device which will survive. At least if Apple doesn't f*ck it up.

Hardly a cheat-sheet! How about more info on the file types that can be stored on the iPod, or whether you get a USB as well as Firewire port and cable included, or whether or not you can use any software other than iTunes to transfer music to it?

  9. 9. anonymous

That is 56 hours of battery life but only 5 hours of music. So, you get to hear each sone 10 times on one AA battery. The iPod mini has a capacity of 66 hours of music.

appleimports.co.uk are now saying (answerphone message) they aren't getting any in till 11th May, this is after they promised it for the first week in April!
I've been unable to get in touch with them via email or telephone to cancel my order and get a refund..........

  11. 11. D Williams

Have you had any luck in receiving you ipod through apple imports. I paid for mine and i was told that it would arrive on 21st April, they are now saying by email that it wont arrive until 11th May. Has anyone had any similar problems to this?

  12. 12. BigPotato

Regarding the comments about sound quality compared to CDs don't forget that the iPod (and other MP3 players) all support WAV format.

Ok - the files are a lot bigger but even so you are still able to store a stack of CDs at CD quality even the mini iPod.

  13. 13. anonymous

I finally got a reply to my email to apple imports asking to cancel the order and to have a refund and they said they would do this, that was last week though and I haven't heard from them since.
I think they are still sticking to the 11th May date but who knows?

  14. 14. Scott

As a teenager i can easily see the attraction of the Ipod and especially Mini Ipod. A friend of mine went on holiday to America and came back with a 15GB Ipod - it looks very good and also stores a lot of music which is good when your out and about. For all those who complain that it doesn't store enough music - when are you going to find the time to listen to 10,000 songs? Also, you can simply delete songs and add different ones when you get bored of them when using lower capacity Ipods. I am very tempted to get a mini Ipod - as i think they are very stylish and i havent got a Walkman, so would enjoy having a digital player that can store all my music so i can listen to it wherever i am. At school everyone would want to have a look, although if i did take it i would be very careful not to get it stolen! The price is a bit high for my wages (I have a Saturday Job) but i am hoping that my parents will be willing to pay most of it. As i said, it is very stylish and appears to be user friendly. I would definately get my moneys worth out of it as i listen to music a lot.

Im having same problem with appleimports. I paid for mine at the end of march, and still havent recieved it....same May 11th story. If they havent despatched tommorrow i will demand a refund and see what happens!

  16. 16. Colin J Massey

Sounds to me like this is an immature product (ipod mini). The noise problems reported here and on ipod lounge are not what I want to get for my $250. I hope Apple take note of these complaints and do something to fix it.

  17. 17. anonymous

I ordered mine from www.americangoodies.com and it was posted to me straight away.

  18. 18. anonymous

Has anyone had any luck with apple imports yet?

  19. 19. anonymous

Nothing from Apple Imports yet. I asked for a refund about a month ago and eventually got a reply back saying he would do this but nothing as yet. I can't get in touch via phone and there's no reply to emails..... the longer it goes on, the more it sounds like a scam

  20. 20. anonymous

ok so appleimports are now saying that delivery hasn't arrived as expected and as compensation they are throwing in a free gift...

  21. 21. JC

If anyone like me has ordered an apple ipod mini from www.appleimports.co.uk, and is having problems, whether it being apple imports not picking up their phone or not replying to e-mails; could you please e-mail me, so we can all work together to sort out whats happening, and question that this could possibly be a scam.

    My email address is: jprcohen@hotmail.com

  22. 22. Yousef majali

omg i appleimports- same story....i ordered it on the 1st of april...now i have no ipod and am £250 short..what can i do about it..i sent them 12 angry emails and even told trading standards..they said the website has no trading adress?that scares me..my email-yousef_majali@yahoo.com tell me what u know if your in the same boat please.. thnx

  23. 23. Lindsay

I used Apple Imports as well. They replied to my first two emails saying "we are currently out of stock on all iPod Minis and are expecting....." They promised April and then May 11th and now they won't answer at all. I tried phoning them but got the same recorded message. I am getting really worried! Feel free to email me.

  24. 24. Danny

Anyone got any ideas on what can be done about Apple Imports? It's looking more and more like a scam

  25. 25. Ross McClugage

I ordered an Ipod mini on the 6th of april from appleimports.co.uk. it did not arrive. Then got an email saying they have been delayed till 11may. it did not arrive. Then i got an email saying it would arrive onb the 12may and posted within 24 hours of reciept. it did not arrive. i sent about 5 emails each one increasing in intolerance for their "Customer Services" if you can call it that. ive had no replys and now im considering contacting watchdog after reading the number of complaints regarding apple imports. (i suggest anyone in the same boat do the same)

I cant help feeling cheated at the lack of interest given to me by the people at apple imports.

  26. 26. Yousef Majali

i also used appleimports... i have had no reply to emails for a month and have spent £250, i am also worried does anyone know my options,i have told trading standards and even watchdog!!! feel free to email me

  27. 27. anonymous

American Goodies has them in stock and ships out immediately.
    http://www.americangoodies.com/page/page/893379.htm

  28. 28. anonymous

Those people at Apple Imports are a bunch of jokers. I placed my order, as many others did, early April, and paid. Got given various lines about delivery, but still nothing! And yes, they have now lost the ability to respond to anything!!

  29. 29. anonymous

Apple Imports are really worrying me! My payment for my mini ipod went through on March 31st and still no sign. It is the fact that I can't seem to contact them at all now that is most concerning. Has anyone had any luck with them?? What would be the best thing to do about it?

I think we should all tell Watchdog! If enough people contact them then maybe something will be done about it. There's nothing we can do as long as they ignore emails.

  32. 32. anonymous

I have told Watchdog about apple imports as well!

  33. 33. anonymous

    Apple Imports advice.
For anyone really worried about this I'd suggest contacting your credit card company & getting them to persue the matter.

They're also in breach of certain distance selling regulations (not delivering within 30days of taking payment). See: http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/guide/distsell.htm
So maybe trading standards could help you out.

  34. 34. Danny

I think you're right about telling Watchdog or someone like that. They are based in Frodsham near Runcorn (well that's where the area code is for) so we could always try Trading Standards there or something. He's been clever too in delaying for this amount of time as PayPal can get involved (if you've paid that way)as long as it's within 30 days of payment (which of course it now isn't)
If anyone wants to email me so we can try and sort something out between us then feel free to do so at burningview@blueyonder.co.uk

  35. 35. Alex Little

I also placed an order with appleimports at the beginning of April and to date have not received an iPod mini; I would be interested to hear from anyone else who is concerned about the legitimacy of the site. They haven't responded to my recent emails requesting for my money to be refunded. If I don't hear this week, I will be progressing the matter with the police, because I am concerned about internet fraud. My contact details are E-mail alittle@sgb.co.uk

  36. 36. Danny Fletcher

Anyone who's having problems with appleimports, feel free to email me at burningview@blueyonder.co.uk and we can discuss our options - If we all report it to Trading Standards / Watchdog together they are more likely to take note

  37. 37. Chris

Same story, havn't recieved anything yet from apple imports... what's their game?

  38. 38. anonymous

AppleImports, the fraud dept of my credit card company (egg) has been notified of the problem.

They've said they're gonna look into the company and attempt to get the funds back.

Did anyone else have the payment show up on their creditcard bill as Mypaysystems?

  39. 39. Ross McCluggage

Hey all you guys havin trouble with apple imports, i got this email from kelkoo today check it out

    Hi Ross,

I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with Apple Imports. I have been trying to contact them myself this week and have had absolutely no response. I made the decision yesterday to remove them from Kelkoo as their customer service is just not up to the high standards we expect. This removal has been actioned and shortly there will be no Apple Import products displayed on Kelkoo.

The only contact details I have are as follows. andy.smith@appleimports.co.uk 01928777803

When Apple Imports signed up for the Product Search they informed me that they were part of DGC Industries Limited (company registration number 04472709) 7 Norman Road. Runcorn, Cheshire, WA7 5PE. Perhaps it is worth contacting them.

I have emailed and left messages for Apple Imports to contact me as I have received a number of complaints similar to yours, but as yet have heard nothing. Can I suggest that you contact Trading Standards http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ and your credit card company who may be able to reverse the transaction.

Please accept my apologies for these problems. If I do hear from Apple Imports I will contact you again and attempt to resolve the situation. If you hear from Apple Imports please let me know.

    Kind Regards

    Lynette

So there is some trace of these jokers!

Get cracking at the phone number guys and im sure we'll hear back soon

  40. 40. Lindsay

We have to stick together. An interesting development there with Kelkoo! Those people seem nice. I think we should contact DGC Industries Limited meantioned in the last post and see if they know anything. By the way Watchdog is finished until the autumn.

  41. 41. gary weir

Hi i ordered an ipod mini like a month and a half ago and still no joy. I have begun teh process to cancel teh payment but when i told this to apple imports they sent me an e-mail
"we are expecting delivery of our new stock on either 28th or 31st May and expect to dispatch within 24 hours of delivery." feel free to e-mail with any comments

  42. 42. Ross McCluggage

    hello again,
Managed to get in contact with trading standards, my credit card company's fraud dept and consumer advice.

CA said that it sounds like a scam and everyone involved should act now to get their money back by contacting their credit card company and reclaiming the purchase. you will need to have all the info, like you paid through mypaysystems.com and how much you spent exactly, also any of the contact info i posted yesterday about DGC industries.

If you didnt pay by credit card its gonna be harder to get your hard earned cash back so the quicker you contact CA the better

  43. 43. anonymous

The best way to deal with this is definitely to deal with MyPay Systems.com I contacted them for a refund as they are who we have directly paid and this is what they said:

    Dear Customer,

Please be advised that your case for a refund request has been initiated.
As per our standard investigatory practices, the vendor has three business days
to respond to the request; if the vendor responds within that timeframe, you
will be contacted with their response via email. If the vendor does not respond
within two business days, a refund will be issued automatically.

If your refund request is approved:
    - For purchases paid for via credit card: the funds will be returned to your
account in 10 to 15 business days and may not appear on your statement until the
    next billing cycle.
    - For purchases paid for via check: the funds will be returned to your account
    within 30 business days.

I have also spoken to my bank, trading standards, Watchdog (!)- just about everyone I can think of, but I honestly think that this is the only way. However, now I have asked for a refund, I bet the mini ipods turn up in a couple of days!!!!!!! Actually, with appleimports, maybe not!

  44. 44. JC

    UPDATE ON APPLEIMPORTS- GOT REPLY!

Just got an email from Haden Thomas himself today saying that appleimports is recieving their new shipment from the 28th - 31st of May

Now it is upto you if you believe that because i've waited long enough. You can hang on in there or you can get a REFUND as i did because i contacted KELKOO and they said from the 18th of May they are not supporting APPLEIMPORTS anymore, because of their poor feedback history!!
People the choice is upto you!!!

  45. 45. Yousef Majali

    HEY GUYS BETTER NEWS!!!!
i contacted apple imports and absolutely bombarded their email system i sent 43 emails yes 43 emails in 1 and half hours...anyway the result was like the other guy a reply directly from haden who informed me that he is getting in contact with paypall and i shall have a refund in a few days. andy smith also emailed me he told me the same thing so i really think i have won. all £246 should arrive soon. trading standards are on the case via me and you guys i can gather and ive also contacted the fraud squad for london.they are interested as to why the company has no land adress but they do think it is at least legitimate.so dont worry i think they have just been stalling cosa problems with stock in the usa...!

anyways. i will make sure i tell you what happens with the refund and hopefully il get it,if not then i will take the same route of contacting mypaysystems.com

good luck people! power to the consumer! oh and email me at yousef_majali@yahoo.com if you want my help in bombarding them with emails! ;)

  46. 46. Steph

I have had the same problem with Apple Imports also, so I decided to get a refund. The easiest method seems to be going to www.mypaysystems.com if you paid with a credit card, as you can request a refund off here. It then goes through a process of getting your money back, but it guarantees that you will have your money back within 15 days. If the vendor answers them, which I find unlikely looking at the service given to customers, then the money will be returned within a week. They also contact you to tell you what is happening and you can check the progress of your refund on their website. I was a bit p*****d off with shopping on the net after this experience with apple imports but being able to get the money back quite easily has restored my faith a bit!

  47. 47. Lindsay

I'm giving them til June 5th. Then contacting the credit card company and getting a refund.

  48. 48. anonymous

I wouldn't bother waiting to cancel.
There are people posting here that have been waiting since the end of March.

If they haven't been able to get any in stock for over 2 months I can't see them doing so any time soon.

I'd cancel your order ASAP & get your iPod from a more reputable company.

  49. 49. Danny Fletcher

Just had an email off Hayden Thomas after I had emailed them on Friday and today asking for a refund. The reply I got on Friday said that they would give me a refund if I contacted PayPal (which I have done) emailed them today chasing it up and got an email back saying I should have a refund with 48hrs.....will let you know how I get on

  50. 50. anonymous

Everyone that paid via PayPal could you please ring their customer services on:
08707 307 191 (UK national call rates apply)
And register a complaint about AppleImports. They have confirmed if enough people register a complaint they will be able to investigate even if we are outside the 30 days policy period and we will have a good chance of obtaining a refund. I have received a number messages from AppleImports confirming the money has been refunded BUT NO REFUND has been credited to my account. They are clearly stalling for time and in my opinion have NO intention of refunding our money. THEREFORE, PLEASE register a complaint with PayPal, because the only route to resolution is a united front.
    Thanks!!!

  51. 51. JC

GUYS, JC IS HERE TO HELP!

I got a refund from apple imports on friday 21st May, on saturday night i ordered an appleipod mini on ebay, and it came today!! 48 hour shipping no hastle, and the ipod mini was only £179!!! And got it in 3 days of ordering it!!!!!!

i got it of a great seller, with 1000 feedbacks: look for: 'ELECTRONIC-GIANT' as a seller!!

  52. 52. anonymous

After contacting PayPal yesterday and registering a complaint against Appleimports I received a message from PayPal this morning that I have been refunded. Good luck to everyone else!!!

  53. 53. anonymous

Hi, has anyone been successful in getting a refund through www.mypaysystems.com?

  54. 54. martyn

well I requested a refund last saturday after reading through these pages of problems with apple imports - I've heard back from then saying that my refund request is going through and has been successful, but havent been credited as yet...

  55. 55. anonymous

What is the latest with Apple Imports? I am getting delivery failure notifications to customer services and Hayden. I ordered an iPOD in April and the last I heard it was due to arrive today.

  56. 56. anonymous

I strongly wouldn't recommend buying anything from Appleimports.co.uk as I paid £231 for a mini ipod back in april and have been palmed off with date after date. I tried emailing them this morning about 7 times and the messages get bounced back. I tried calling them but there is an out of date recorded message on there and the message box is full. I'm now onto pay pal systems and the trading standards about them as I persoannly don't think the company exists!

  57. 57. anonymous

I'm having same problem with appleimports. Most recent promise of delivery May 31 but no sign and worryingly I'm getting my e-maiol bounced back as undeliverable

  58. 58. anonymous

Same problem with Apple Imports - emails being bounced back, old recorded message on customer service number. Has anyone actually received anything yet? I was expecting delivery today/tomorrow but now am worried.

  59. 59. anonymous

I wrote to Apple Imports last week asking for a refund, got a reply totally ignoring what I'd said in my email!! Telling me that delivery is expected..how many times have we heard that?!! Anyway, I asked mypaysystems directly for a refund and have received confirmation but am awaiting my card being credited. Even if the ipod delivery is expected this week I'd rather give my money to another company after all this fuss.

  60. 60. anonymous

I have been in touch with the trading standards agency and they have told me that I am covered (having paid by credit card)as my bank have equal liability for the moeny. However I have had a response from Paysystems who have told me that if they don't here from appleimports in 3 days they will refund my money. But I agree, even if the ipod came I'd rather have the money! this was a 21st birthday present for my brother back in April, & the cheeky buggers even promised to engrave it!! I won't be using them again and have informed Apple of the supposed company as it gives Apple products a bad name so they're looking into it.

  61. 61. martyn

Well i have been refunded in full now from paysystems, its credited my credit card and i'm a little relieved that it has to say the least!!

oh, and ordered one last thurs night from americangoodies.com, it arrived yesterday morning at 8am. (although with a £31.50 surcharge from royal mail!)

  62. 62. Mat Steele

E-mail is still bouncing from appleimports.co.uk, despite the site saying otherwise. I've requested a refund from MyPaySystems, hopefuly this will occur. I've never dealt with such a joke of a company.

  63. 63. anonymous

I've been duped the same as everyone else by apple imports and I followed people's advice by going to mypaysystems.com (I paid by credit card) to request a refund but they say that they don't have any matching records for my case. I have definitely paid for the ipod (it came up on my credit card bill) but as apple imports seem to be unable to offer any sort of refund, is there another way I can get back my money? Thanks

  64. 64. Danny

Appleimports have set up another site - www.ipodimports.com - it basically allows them to rip-off people from around Europe as well, it says it's listed in Kelkoo too!
I've tried emailing them at this address (customersupport@ipodimports.com) but had nothing back. I spoke to Paypal last week and they told me to report it to the police.

  65. 65. anonymous

Their site has now posted a new email address to use customerservices@centrido.com

Personally I have requested a refund of mypaysystems.com and ordered an ipod from americangoodies.com

Just had an email from Andy, suggesting that the deliveries have arrived. They shall be sending units over the next few days.

Believe it when it see it!

  68. 68. Ruprecht

Holy crap...Silicon.com becomes iPod devotee message board!

So you can't get them in Europe?...so deal with it!

I bet Apple could move their call centre to India and everyone would think it was GREAT ;o)

  69. 69. James Ponder

I did go over to the states to get one. They had run out. In the Apple store, Best Buy and Fry's Electronics. Bah.

  70. 70. anonymous

    Trouble with ipodimports.com
Sitting in the same boat like many of you i ordered an ipod mini from ipodimports.com long time ago (may 12th 04), payed via creditcard but didnt get one at all. First email about the date of delivery was replyed (out of stock, new ones `ll arrive on may 28th 04, etc.), next emails didnt get replyed at all.
Did anyone of you get an answer from ipodimports.com? What can i do now?

  71. 71. Linz

What is mypaysystems.com and how do I use it? Do you have to pay? I don't really understand what it does..!

  72. 72. Matt Watson

Oh dear, I just discovered this discussion after doing some web digging on appleimports.

My CC was charged in early April, and I too have received nothing!

    What a nasty little scam....

  73. 73. Charles

Apple Imports now claim that they have recieved delilvery, YIPEEEEEEEE!! They say they are going to ship within the next few days. I just hope it has been worth the wait and that this is not a scam.

  74. 74. anonymous

Received this mail yesterday from Andy at AppleImports. I've said that I have requested a refund via MyPaySystems but that I would be happy to receive the goods if it is still due to arrive. How exciting, might end up with two as have ordered one from AmericanGoodies which has already been dispatched apparently... still waiting for both of them though..

    Hi,

Thank you for your email, I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you
but we have had problems with our mail server over the weekend. We have
received our stock of iPod's and expect to begin shipping within the next
    few days.

    Regards,

    Andy
    Apple Imports

Appleimports.co.uk appear to be sending a standard reply to all emails whatever the subject or question you send them.

Their domain name 'whois' has the name and address removed ! doesn't bode well really !

you can get a refund by logging into mypaysystems.com though.

  76. 76. anonymous

So how does it differ from Rio Karma ?

Well MyPaySystems seem to have rejected my refund. Of course they didn't bother to e-mail me or anything or even display an outcome, simply changed back to request a refund......

After e-mailing Appleimports again I too have recieved an identical message from (edit Andy... no idea where I got paul from) stating that they have recieved stock. I'll believe it when I see it.

Either way, both companies have now pissed me off, no shipping notification by tommorow and i'm setting Visa on them.

Mat, I had to request the refund twice on mypaysystems.com. It worked the second time and the next day I received a refund notification by email.

I've received my refund from Mypaysystems. Do you have to ask twice but then it magically appears on your credit card statement.

Don't believe that they have stock at all... Glad I got my money back!

I asked for a refund from mypaysystems.com sunday and today (tuesday)the refund was accepted.
Still have to wait another 10 days to get the money, but now there's hope!

The same thing happened to me with mypaysystems -it seemed that my request had disappeared when I went to check the status so I requested it again, and the same thing happened. I ended up ringing up (USA number) and asking why, to be told it was beacause my request had been processed. I got a confirmation email and I got my money back within a week.

Received my iPod mini from americangoodies.com this morning - it took 6 days from ordering - fantastic ! (had to pay £40.00 import duty but I think its worth it.)

Got my refund from mypaysystems.com now too. Have also noticed appleimports.com is providing a refund page !!

  84. 84. anonymous

Please has anyone got a telephone number for Mypaysystems? I have lost my order number but completed all other information on the refund page (which was in the alternative to the order number) and it came up with a message that I had not completed all the information and would not process my application. I would like to call them instead.

So much for that the new address. No responses from Andy. Received my iPOD from American Goodies on Wednesday with a couple of sweeties in it for good measure!!! MyPaySystems have advised that my refund has gone through so I guess everything is ok...

googled Hayden Thomas and got this adweek page, intresting names, no.

"For instance, the inspiration for the spot was not the Macintosh but its predecessor, Apple II. The memorable line, "Why 1984 won't be like 1984," was written for an Apple II newspaper ad and rejected by the client-only to be recycled by copywriter Steve Hayden and art director Brent Thomas in 1983. The idea seemed to suit the Macintosh, which Apple co-founder Steve Jobs hoped would "stop the world in its tracks," recalls Hayden, now president of worldwide brand services at Ogilvy & Mather. "

I ordered a mini iPod from apple imports in the middle of April. I'm a student, so it took me forever to save up for this. It was meant to be my boyfriends 18th birthday present - which was yesterday. I can't believe how poor the customer service is from haden and andy smith. They emailed me after 1 and a half months to say they would give me a refund - 1 day before the birthday!
So if anyone knows any contact information for trading standards or watchdog I would appreciate this. This 'company'(!!?!?!?!) need to know how to treat customers!

Apple Import problems - I nearly ordered from them too but decided on American Goodies. Received it within 5 days in perfect condition.

I also managed to get a full refund from apple imports (eventually!). I would recommend to just keep sending them multiple emails demanding refunds and eventually they get fed up and give you one. I ordered my ipod in late march and it had arrived by 6th June so quite frankly I think the company's fraudulent and would recommend that people get out while they can and get an ipod mini on ebay if you're desperate!

  93. 93. Anna Lewis

I've jsut recieved an email from Hayden sayingthat they were getting their last lot of ipod in july, he also said that mypaysystems werent doing refunds anymre and that hayden would send the refund by cheque. Does this sound dodgy to anyone else ? Anyway I got onto my bank and they are dealing with it. I've also contacted Apple and they are interested in it

  94. 94. Charles

No sign of the iPod mini that was "now in stock and will be despatched within a few days". It has been two weeks now. In my opinon this company is totally fraudulent, GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!! Get one from americangoodies.com or as we have waited so long already why not wait until they are released?

  95. 95. anonymous

I got mine from Amazon.com People are selling them brand new cheap there (even under $160!) I'm now waiting for mine to come.

  96. 96. Lindsay

I got mine on ebay. It's brilliant!

Has anyone who has ordered their ipod mini from apple imports actually managed to get a refund??? I am in the same boat as many of the people here. Ordered in April and still waiting. Have been told on numerous occasions that they are waiting for the delivery. They even e-mailed me to inform me I shall receive a free gift for all of the trouble. I live in hope! Any advice on what to do about the fraudsters?

  98. 98. Jason Stone

Has anyone out there received a mini IPOD from www.appleimports.co.uk?

  99. 99. anonymous

I'm the same as everyone else. Ordered in April and no refund or iPod has been recieved. Has anyone ever recieved an i-pod from these guys?

  100. 100. anonymous

i havnt recieved my ipod yet so i signed them up to about 20 different porn newsletters and random stuff REVENGE IS SWEET

  101. 101. anonymous

Appleimports, well what can I say that hasn't already been said, they are a complete shower of charlatans. I had quite a few responses from Andy Smith about deadline this, supplier that, but that dis not get me my pod. After offering refunds and promissed cheques i have sought legal advice and it looks o.k. so far. By the way didi anyone else get and order number from them, I certainly didn't.

  102. 102. anonymous

Purchased ipod mini back in April. Debited straight away but no ipod. Cant even get reply from them now. Contacting Watchdog and credit card company.

  103. 103. anonymous

I have ordered an ipod mini, and it should arrive in the next couple days. I have been reading the comments about the fradulant apple company, and wondering if anyone has experienced this problem in the United States. I would greatly appreciate feedback.

  104. 104. david hawkins

Any mechanical HD memory has to be dodge. Go solid state every time.

  105. 105. anonymous

i turn on the ipod mini and it shows the apple sign and then a folder with a exclamation mark and then it turns off

  106. 106. Anna

Yeah. I managed to get an order number from Apple Imports. I got it from the MypaySystems website shortly after they stopped doing business with apple imports.
I Paid for mine in April last year and I contacted trading standards in October.
If anyone wants to talk about Apple Imports then email me.
