NEWS The Bank of Montreal has signed up for a full-scale roll out of Amdahl's smartcard technology. The bank plans to use Amdahl's Mondex Smartcard (AMS) system for its core electronic transactions. The Canadian high-street giant joins the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Canadian Credit union in its support for the Multos operating system. A spokesman for Amdahl said the bank has been running a pilot scheme over the last few months. DMR Consulting Group will provide the support services for the bank. Multos is the operating system used and developed by Mondex. It supports multiple applications on a single card and is freely available to developers. Its first commercial releases are due later this year. The contract comes shortly after Fujitsu pledged its allegiance to the Multos development forum, Maosco, alongside companies such as American Express, Gemplus, Hitachi and ICL.
