NEWS UK high-end database vendor, Versant, has bought French software company, Soft Mountain, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will add Soft Mountain's event-driven technology to Versant's product range in a bid to boost its Internet-enabled ecommerce products. Nick Ordon, Versant president and CEO, said: "Soft Mountain's event-driven technology is very complementary to the Versant object database management system." Ordon explained that event driven technology simplifies the interaction between multiple business functions, and aids the creation of ecommerce environments that cater to individual customer needs. Soft Mountain will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Versant. Its development centre in Ecully, France will remain open.
