NEWS A fly-on-the-wall insight into a real life emergency room is to be broadcast over the Internet this Friday as 'Trauma Centre Live' goes on air. The American Health Network, which filmed the first live Internet birth, is adding to its series of educational medical Web casts at http://www.ahn.com. For 12 hours, five cameras will follow patients and procedures at the Ben Taub General Hospital emergency room in Houston, Texas. A spokesman for AHN.com said the event will "educate the public on health related issues", and break new ground in Web casting. More than 1.1 million users logged onto the site to see the Internet birth and according to Web consultancy Media Matrix it is the 26th fastest growing Web site in the world. Other features on the site include health news, a medical library, personal health assessments and a virtual human anatomy tour. Doctors can also give first aid advice and display answers to common medical questions on the screen. The AHN.com spokesman added: "Wireless cameras are being used to promote mobility and avoid physical contact." Patient identity will not be disclosed until individual consent has been given. The live Web cast begins at midday central US time on Friday.
