IDC report shows global PC sales slow down

NEWS Global PC shipments are unlikely to reach the figures predicted earlier in the year, according to the fourth quarter PC shipment report by IDC. Figures show that shipments will only reach 11 per cent, 2 per cent lower than the research company originally predicted. Shipments in 1999 are also expected to be lower at 12.8 per cent instead of an earlier forecast of 13.2 per cent. IDC said the revision was prompted by slow sales in Eastern Europe. However, the report claimed there was a season upswing in Western Europe. It showed Dell, Compaq, IBM and Hewlett Packard are likely to benefit from the pre-Christmas buying period and aggressive ad campaigns.
