Ellison criticises "insane" US government

NEWS Oracle CEO, Larry Ellison, has attacked the US government over its decision not to tax Internet commerce. The US policy is currently on hold following the government's decision to put a three-year moratorium on policy making while it works out whether or not online trade should be taxed. Speaking at a conference of business leaders organised by the Economist magazine last week, Ellison accused the government of pandering to business: "It's trying to be nice by promising there won't be a tax on Internet trade - that's insane." "In two years all commerce will be ecommerce all large business will be ebusiness in fact the term 'ebusiness' will disappear altogether - if you don't tax the Internet you won't be taxing business at all," he explained. Ellison was responding to calls from delegates for advice about how the UK government should construct its own ecommerce Bill, which is set for publication imminently.
