NEWS Kettering Hospital has combined most of its pathology, radiology and general administration records into a datawarehouse, replacing paper-based files. But while the system - which uses specialist healthcare software from MicroScript - is accessible via a browser-based front-end, the hospital's IT security and development manager, David White, claimed it is reliable and confidential. In an interview for Silicon.com's Healthcare Channel (http://www.silicon.com/healthcare ), White said it is possible to identify users of the system, and create audit trails to check procedures are being followed. Responding to concerns that the system may be open to abuse, he said: "It's not unusual to see paper records go astray or get lost." The next stage will be to integrate the system with those at other hospitals, although White warned that the heterogeneous systems will not be easy to combine.
