NEWS Abbey National is to launch a TV banking service in September this year, as part of a £100m investment in hi-tech banking services. The initial service will be limited to brochure-ware - customers can review products, calculate loan repayments or request a call-back - but from the beginning of next year it will be introducing a fully functional interactive banking facility that can be accessed with the TV remote control. The service will initially only be available to Sky Digital customers who will also benefit from a similar offering from HSBC. The former building society also plans to introduce Internet banking early next year, and marks its continued strategy to drive customers away from its branches - it recently introduce charges for customers wanting to pay bills over branch counters.
