NEWS The Inland Revenue has announced plans to focus on Web services, and to encourage tax collectors to rebrand themselves as "customer service advisors". Nick Montagu, Inland Revenue board chairman, says the department wants to reinvent itself in line with the increasing modernisation of government bodies. He says he plans to appoint a director-general to head "strategic service delivery", preferably from the private sector, and adopt a customer-oriented approach to business. Montagu said he hoped that 30 per cent of all dealings with the Inland Revenue will be carried out electronically by 2002.
