British military to get secure global email

By Suzanna Kerridge, 2 September 1999 06:30

NEWS The UK's defence department headquarters in Northwood is set to roll-out an integrated email system to connect all its worldwide bases. The Defence Message Handling System (DMHS), will be developed by British Aerospace Defence Systems (BAe) using technology from US-based global network manager, Infonet. The company will use its Messenger Workplace software to create a unified military messaging system for transferring army personnel details and strategic military information. Infonet has also made the source code of the Messenger Workplace available to BAe to enable future development of the email system. Messenger Workplace was originally used by the military to create ArmyMail, the secure email service currently used by the British Army.
