Mobile phone emission standards under examination

NEWS The House of Commons select committee on Science and Technology has recommended the UK government to fall in line with the rest of Europe over radiation exposure levels from mobile phones. The committee wants the government to lower the maximum exposure guidelines due to potential health risks. In a report entitled "Mobile Phones and Health" the committee states that there is little evidence to suggest that mobile phones do actually damage health, even at the high levels of radiation dosage allowed in the UK. However, it states that the guidelines should be lowered as a precaution until adequate scientific research is completed. Dr Michael Clark, chairman of the select committee, criticised the government, saying its "research programme falls seriously short of adequacy", and called for an expanded research programme.
