NEWS Doctors in West Yorkshire are cutting waiting lists by using a system that allows them to book patients directly onto hospital operating lists. The pilot scheme, conducted by the Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals NHS Trust, is part of the National Booked Admissions programme which aims to get the national healthcare infrastructure ready for modernisation. According to results released from a direct hospital care booking service, the pilot has allowed GPs to book treatments without first having to send the patient for an out-patient appointment. The system - implemented by healthcare IT supplier, IMS - went live last November and has cut waiting lists and improved attendance figures, according project director, John Wood.
