NEWS IBM has joined forces with healthcare product supplier, Ethicon, to develop an inventory management network to ensure British hospitals stay stocked with medical supplies. E-Sy Scan is a wireless network incorporating mobile palm devices that link the hospitals to an automated stock and inventory system. The partnership claims the system will cut the average product ordering process by 30 minutes. Manchester Royal Infirmary is one of the first to use the system. Nancy McNeilance, theatre resources co-ordinator at the hospital, said it has already saved time and resources.
