NEWS The UK government faces a potentially embarrassing investigation into its Y2K-
compliance spending by the National Audit Office (NAO).
In the months running up to the millennium the government was highly vocal in its attempts to convince UK business of the threat of the bug.
The total amount spent in Britain on reaching Y2K compliance is estimated to be around £35bn, with the sum for Whitehall alone amounting to £430m.
The findings of the investigation will be published in the spring. It will then be debated by a parliamentary select committee, before possibly being passed on to a Public Accounts Committee.
