NEWS UK teachers are to get £500 towards the cost of a PC through a scheme launched yesterday by Michael Wills, the Department of Education and Employment's Learning and Technology minister. Wills made the announcement at the educational technology conference, BETT 2000, He explained that the subsidy will only be offered to teachers taking part in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training schemes underway across UK schools. Money for the scheme- called 'Computers for Teachers'- comes from a funding package of grants worth £167.8m going out to Local Education Authorities. Wills said the scheme will make Britain's education system "one of the best in the world". Information about the Computers for Teachers scheme can be found at http://cft.ngfl.gov.uk.
