NEWS Thomson-CSF and French disk manufacturer MPO have partnered to develop technology to fight the pirate copying of CDs and DVDs. Called Tages, the system tags the CDs with sensors that alter the play of the disk when an unauthorised user tries to copy it, thus rendering it useless. Christian Nguyen Van Yen, director at Thomson, said the company hopes the standard will be adopted worldwide. Music companies Macrovision and Sony have already expressed an interest in using the technology.
