By Joey Gardiner, 24 February 2000 17:57

NEWS E-procurement specialist, Commerce One, has announced a deal with US telco, Bell South, to set up a global online marketplace for the telecoms industry. The Internet-based market is designed to create an open electronic exchange for suppliers of goods and services to the telecoms industry. The deal extends as far as a "memorandum of understanding" between the companies to set up a global marketplace in which they will be minority stakeholders. The two companies want to involve all telecoms providers in the project and are looking for as many as six or seven to hold a stake in the joint venture. The joint venture will have an independent management team, and will be up and running in the second quarter of 2000.
