NEWS UK high-street bank Barclays this week announced a move into business-to-business ecommerce (B2B) services, starting with a secure e-procurement portal. The bank claimed its initiative, known as Barclays B2B.com, will revolutionise the way UK businesses trade with one another. Barclays has partnered with Andersen Consulting and Oracle to provide consulting and ecommerce expertise for the venture. Chris Lendrum, chief executive of Barclays Corporate Banking, said in a statement: "Although we will begin with the e-procurement next month, over time we plan to use Barclays B2B.com to enable the delivery of numerous business services. "In addition to building our own ebusiness services and capabilities, through the formation of powerful alliances we plan to bring all the essential services a business may require into one portal - from the purchase of stationery and raw materials through to the administration of human resources." The service is targeting companies with a turnover of between £5m and £250m.
