NEWS Ecommerce dominated the opening of Semaine Europeenne des Technologies de l'Information (European information technology week) as leaders from across all industry sectors urged French companies to embrace the Internet. Bernard Dufau, president, IBM France, told companies to cross the e-line and claimed the Net could create new channels of information and customer revenue. He told the audience that at the heart of this week's event is making use of the Internet to expand French business. According to figures from research house, Cesmo, the French Internet services market will be worth FF22bn (£2bn) by 2001, against its current value of FF7.3bn (£680m). Meanwhile the French ecommerce market will grow to FF227bn (£21bn) by 2003. All keynote speakers warned French companies of the dangers of falling behind in what they are calling the Internet Revolution. ERP, CRM, and Linux were also on the agendas of French IT directors visiting the show. Tomorrow's keynotes, include: Jene de Rose, CEO of Jupiter Communications; Guy de Panafieu, CEO of Bull; and Eric Gaillet, CEO of businessangels.com.
