Italian treasury offers foreign investors online bonds

NEWS The Italian treasury department is to open a Web site to enable foreign investors to invest in Italian government bonds online. Investors will be able to contribute up to E2bn (£1.2bn) over two years through two banks - UBS Warburg and Banca IMI Spa. Italian finance minister Vincenzo Visio said it was the first time in Europe that government bonds could be purchased online.
