NEWS Red Hat has released source code to developers to allow them to begin developing applications for Intel's IA-64 processor. The Itanium is Intel's first 64-bit processor based on the IA-64 architecture which is expected to power high-end servers and workstations. Michael Pope, Intel's director of ebusiness solutions marketing, welcomed the release and said it will help the open source Linux community to speed up development of the advanced server and workstation applications for the Itanium environment. A free download version of the code can be obtained at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/ia64 .
