'Kill the Bill' - a silicon.com campaign

By Jon Bernstein, 7 June 2000 12:15

NEWS The Regulation of Investigatory Powers (aka 'Snooping') Bill was first introduced in the House of Commons on 9 February 2000. The Bill will allow law enforcement authorities to gain access to email messages via your ISP. They'll also be able to apply for access to your private encryption keys but not allow you to tell anyone what they've done - compromising the value of your data and your business' data. Have you heard about the RIP Bill? What do you think? silicon.com wants to know your views on the so-called 'Snooping Bill'. Tell us what you think by emailing editorial@silicon.com. Contact the Home Office directly and let them know your views at public.enquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk before the Bill goes into its committee stage in the House of Lords on Monday. And don't forget to forward the email to friends and colleagues you think might be affected by the Bill. This will be your last chance to have a say. There is less than a week to do something about it... so don't delay. To get more background read silicon.com's extensive coverage below.
