NEWS French government commissioner Frederic Salat-Baroux has asked the Council of the State to annul the decision by the French audiovisual regulator CSA to allow companies to advertise their Web sites on television. He claimed the CSA had exceed its legal boundaries and broken a 1992 decree prohibiting certain forms of advertising on the television. The Council supported the decision, made last February, despite strong opposition from many professional associations and six trade unions representing radio stations and cinema. They fear the loss of revenue if companies pull the advertising from local papers and media. The Council of the State has until the beginning of July to respond.
