Former Oracle president turns energy to start-ups

NEWS Ray Lane - the president of Oracle until his sudden resignation last month - has re-emerged as an early stage investor or 'angel', for internet start-ups. Lane told the San Jose Mercury News that his first investment has been Sheer Networks, a California-based network software firm, where he has also joined the board. Before the shock departure in July, Lane had been running the Oracle's day-to-day operations since 1992. He still serves as a board member and is credited with bringing Oracle back from the brink of bankruptcy in the early 1990s and centralising sales and marketing strategies.
