NEWS Japan's biggest telco, NTT, is on the look-out for a European internet backbone to aid its global expansion. The purchase would ideally take place by the end of the year, said Masanobu Suzuki, president and CEO of NTT Communications, speaking to the Financial Times. He said NTT already had web-hosting services but lacked the backbone capacity necessary to service international companies. This may be leased, but is more likely to be purchased. NTT yesterday completed a $5.5 billion purchase of US internet company Verio. The company is expected to extend its IP Network to Europe.
