Microsoft appeals to delay court battle

Microsoft has requested extra time to appeal its ongoing case against the US Department of Justice over its alleged monopoly of the PC software market.

NEWS The company has asked a federal appeals court to allow five months for itself and the DoJ to file appeal case documents, and for filings to be four times the usual length, because of the "monumental" scope of the case. The DoJ opposes this approach, and in a statement said the proposal would unnecessarily delay the case and postpone the appeal. Last week, Microsoft won the right to hear its appeal in a lower court, despite the DoJ pressing for the case to go straight to the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court.
