NEWS CEO Clive Pinder comes in from Viant; director of technology Paul Jones left Cambridge Technology Partners; design director Paul Bishop from Icon Medialab; other names were looted from March First and Razorfish. "E-commerce is getting larger, more geographically diverse and much more mission critical. The larger company CEO wants new disciplines, but not from a company with only 500 to 600 employees around the world," said Pinder. The theory is that Metrius will be able to offer independent advice based on the new disciplines whilst having the backing of the established KPMG name, old-economy expertise and, of course, finance. KPMG did the same thing in the US last year and boasts of the experiment as a success, with clients such as Motorola, Compaq, Xircom and Macromedia. "All the big accountancy firms have been doing e-commerce consultancy for some time," said industry analyst Robert Bruce. "It makes sense to move away and let the client focus on what they're getting on each side. And, of course, they'll be able to talk more easily with the clients." Pinder said he expected to announce more well-known recruits to the company shortly and hopes to be able to release the names of clients as they sign up.
