Sainsbury's outlines Andersen outsourcing deal

Sainsbury's has announced details of how it will outsource its IT department, complete with 800 staff, to Andersen Consulting in a seven year deal that will save the supermarket giant £35m.

NEWS The supermarket group announced the details of the plan it had unveiled in August and said that the deal was an attempt to cap the £200 million a year it spends on IT. Andersen will take complete responsibility for all systems and networks including future development. John Adshead board director for IT at Sainsbury's, said: "Over the next two and a half years, Andersen will renew all our key systems, replacing legacy systems with best practice retail packages. Improvements to our ecommerce shop and to our HR systems are planned by April, 2001. The company will also be replacing all of its current point of sale systems.
