NEWS As the keeper of top level internet domain addresses, Icann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has considerable political and business influence. Recently, the committee has been repeatedly accused of focussing too heavily on market issues rather than underlying technology. Cerf is expected to start immediately on developing a new focus for the organisation. During the 70s Cerf played a major role in the development of the TCP/IP internet protocol - later setting up the MCI email service. Cerf is currently the vice-president of MCI Worldcom.
