NEWS The figures reveal that 12.8 million French citizens log on to the internet - 59 per cent from their homes and the remainder predominantly via access at school or at work. Fabienne Schwalbe, director general of MMXI France said the French internet market is a lot younger than it is in Germany or the UK but is showing signs of very strong growth. Compared to the 97 per cent growth in France, German internet user numbers grew by 68 per cent and in the UK by 37 per cent in the past year. Schwalbe said: "There is now a true shift between the potential to go online and users actually accessing the web." Online shopping has also taken off with one in two French citizens buying online. The most popular sites include national train operator sncf.fr for online booking and amazon.fr.
