NEWS IBM has named the appointee as Harriett Pearson, who will report to IBM senior vice president LR Ricciardi. Pearson will create privacy policies and initiatives, strengthening IBM's commitment to protecting personal data, the firm said. In a statement, IBM CEO Louis Gerstner said many companies had not realised that privacy was a policy issue, not a technology issue, and that IBM's appointment was addressing that change.
