NEWS Speaking in Germany at the Euro Trophies award ceremony, designed to reward businesses with innovative and creative euro preparations, Muller said many companies - SMEs in particular - are not taking sufficient steps to prepare themselves. Bank notes are being converted to the common currency no later than the end of this year, but according to Kopper, 60 per cent of German companies are taking the issue too lightly and will miss the deadline. Coupled with a general reluctance to convert currency, Kopper claimed the smooth handling of the Y2K computer threat has created a sense that the matter has little urgency.
