NEWS According to a Gartner Group forecast, by the end of next year 26 per cent of US companies will be processing invoices electronically, rising to 34 per cent by 2004. Gartner claims the time taken to process invoices could be cut dramatically by shifting to the electronic model. In addition, the average cost of issuing a conventional invoice is $5 - an electronic invoice will cost $1.65. However, Gartner warns there could be some barriers to widespread uptake of the technology. Eleven per cent of companies surveyed stated that their customers were still having problems with the billing procedure already in place and many companies are finding it difficult to integrate the new systems into their existing structures. by Irene Binal, reporter, silicon.de
