NEWS Female surfers now outnumber men on the net, according to two new surveys. One, from analyst house Jupiter Media Metrics, says women over 18 make up 41 per cent of web users, while adult men comprise just 40 per cent - a fall since the last survey. Under 18s make up 19 per cent of surfers. However, according to a report on Newsbytes, men still outperform women in terms of time spent online and clicks per session. NetRatings puts this down to men's more enthusiastic use of 'adult' sites, while women concentrate on shopping. Women first overtook men in Jupiter's online surveys a year ago, and have since consolidated their position. Jupiter warns that internet marketers should pay attention to this demographic trend. The move is particularly pronounced amongst older surfers, who are more attractive to many advertisers because of their larger disposable incomes. The second survey comes from web-metrics company Nielsen/NetRatings, and shows women outnumbering men by 52 per cent to 48 per cent.
