NEWS Ford has signed up business telco Siemens Communications to handle its entire European telecoms infrastructure in a three year outsourcing deal. The deal - which will look after the telecoms needs of 50,000 Ford workers - will service 70 Ford offices in 18 countries. Siemens will buy Ford's existing telco infrastructure, upgrade it with IP functionality and rent it back to Ford. Siemens already supplies Ford with all its telecoms equipment, but this deal is the first time it has asked Siemens to manage it. The telco will update Ford's telecoms with its proprietary HiPath architecture. The parties were unable to disclose if the deal will see Ford workers moving over to Siemens.
